AWF Coon Rapids, MN 1/19/2013

The American Wrestling Federation presented five big matches at the Coon Rapids High School on Saturday January 19th, 2013. This was taped for the AWF’s TV show Sunday Shockwave which airs on channel 23 at 9:30 am in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.The last time I was in this building was for an AWA event over 20 years ago.
2012 United States Olympic wrestler Chas Betts pinned Aaron Corbin.
John Johnson pinned Benjamin Sailer.
Mikey Wipeout defeated Pete Huge. If you look at Huge’s right eye you can see the black eye that was given to him by a gay goat.
AWF heavy weight champion Black Stallion pinned Big Sep to retain the title. The referee for the last two matches was Shane Farkas. Check out the tattoo on Big Seps left arm.
AWF Elite champion Craven Knyte pinned Arya Daivari to retain the title.

F1rst: Wrestlepalooza Minneapolis, MN 1/12/2013

On a really cold Saturday night in Minneapolis, MN pro wrestling returned to my favorite venue, First Avenue. F1rst Wrestling returned as they presented Wrestle Palooza, a mix of pro wrestling, punk rock and burlesque. What a combination that is!
The first match of the night was a six man tag match. Wildcat & Zero Gravity ( Brett Gakiya & CJ Esparza )defeated “6% Body Fat” Rob James, Mr. Kincaid & Renny D.
Next out in the ring was Queenie Von Curves for some burlesque action.
Shawn Daivari pinned Colin Cambridge in the second match of the night. This was my first time seeing Cambridge, who wrestles out of the Chicago area. As Daivari was celebrating his win his younger brother Arya came out and gave him a super kick.
Punk band Masked Intruder came out and played a few songs.
The Misfits (John Johnson & Aaron Corbin) defeated The North Star Express ( Darin Corbin & Ryan Cruz) when Aaron pinned Darin. I think the last time Corbin & Cruz teamed together was at the last F1rst wrestling event back in July 2011.
After an intermission the action in the ring continued with more burlesque from Musette “The Mistress of Mischief”.
Masked Intruder came out to play a few more songs.Too bad they were rudely interrupted by Arya Daivari. That guy is suck a jerk. Daivari said he was looking for a fight so M.I. Blue brought out his pal Arik Cannon to take on Daivari.
Arik Cannon defeated Arya Daivari in an anarky rules match. Cannon did get a little help from M.I. Green and Officer Bradford. (It’s come to my attention that Daivari now uses his real first name which is spelled “Ariya”. But here on his blog I’m still going to spell it with out the “I” for consistency
Next up was more burlesque. This time it was Queenie Von Curves/Hogan dancing to “Real American”. This was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen at a pro wrestling event.
In the main event El Chivas Blanco defeated “Playboy” Pete Huge. This is a must see match as is this whole event. So go buy the DVD when it comes out at Smart Mark Video.

PWB St. Paul, MN 1/5/2013

Pro Wrestling Battleground held their 6th anniversary event on Saturday night 1/5/13 at Wibelski’s Blues Saloon in St. Paul MN. Kudos to those who run PWB for lasting 6 years. A lot of promotions pop up and don’t’ even last half that long. For this post I’ve added Twitter names for some of the wrestlers.
In the opening match Chas Betts (@chasbetts)  , Venom (@Kingofthrowdown) & PJ Thorn defeated The Mad Russian, James Dawson & Ty Cooper. This was a 6 man tag team elimination match. Venom and Thorn were eliminated after The Mad Russian hit them with diving head butts. Betts then pinned all 3 of his opponents to get the win.
The Prophet won against PWB Breakout champion Luther Wilson III by DQ. Wilson tossed The Prophet over the top rope for the DQ. I didn’t know that rule was still in the rule book.
Craven Knyte (@CravenKnyte) defeated Udo.
Ryan Cruz (@cruzshakalaka) pinned “6% Body fat” Rob James (@6PercentBodyFat).
Renny D (@RealRennyD)defeated “Playboy” Pete Huge (@petehuge).
In the main event PWB champion Darin Corbin defeated Horace the Psychopath to retain the title. Corbin has been wearing some really ugly tights for his matches and the ones he wore in this match were one of the ugliest.

BCW New Brighton , MN 12/15/2012

Born Champions Wrestling returned to the Mirage bar & Grill on Saturday December 15th. This show was record by Chris Walden of cheapseatsmn.com. You can click on the link to watch the whole show.
In the opening contest Mikey Wipeout defeated Cameron Cross.
Hot Karl Clemson defeated The Prophet. Cleamson had his feet on the ropes when he pinned The Prophet but rookie ref Travis Porter was out of position to see the rule breaking.
Horace the Psychopath defeated his tag team partner Rob James to become the new BCW Twin Cities champion. These BCW tag team champions were forced to wrestle each other by BCW owner Judd Jennrich.
Renny D with Scarlett Bordeaux defeated Arik Cannon.
Venom, Ryan Cruz & Udo defeated The Entourage (Bret O’Brian, Craven Knyte, Judd Jennrich, The Savage & Adam Diesel). Venom pinned Jennrich for the win and that meant that The Entourage is no more.
Jerry Lynn defeated BCW heavy weight champion Darin Corbin to win the title. That ended Corbin’s 2 plus year reign as BCW champion.
After Jerry Lynn won the BCW title Craven Knyte came out to cash in his title shot that he won at the Tournament of Kings back in July. Lynn gave Knyte a cradle piledriver to win his first and only BCW title defense. After the match Lynn said he would have to relinquish the belt as he is retiring in March.

Rudos Promociones Richfield, MN 11/30/2012

It’s been a while since I’ve been ring side at a lucha libra event. Over five years actually. Most of the lucha shows in the Minneapolis area take place on Sundays which I can’t attend. So I was happy to hear that there would be one on a Friday night in my home town. Rudos Promociones held a fund raiser event for Partnership Academy. The event was held at the school which is located in the Church of the Assumption.

Frankenstein defeated  Loba. In case you’ve always wondered who would win between these two monsters you now know the answer. Frankenstein won after a top rope splash.

Chintin pinned Ciriaca. Even though the referee was a rudo the good guy still got the win.

Guerrero Rebelde defeated  Sur Star. Rebelde was the only luchadore that didn’t wear a mask.

Alas De Fuego and Mexican Boy beat Renegado Estrada and Apostle Trece. This was a match of rookies VS veterans and it was the rookies who got the win.

SDW South St. Paul, MN 11/24/2012

Steel Domain Wrestling was at the South St. Paul high school a few weeks ago on a Saturday night. This was a benefit show for the high schools dance team.
SDW promoter Ed Hellier and announcer Mick Karch started off the event at ring side for the internet taping. They were interrupted by Zero Kincade who complained that he was not on the card. Kincade didn’t get a match but he did get the claw from Baron Von Raschke.
Wildcat defeated Craven Knyte in the opening match. Midway through the match a cable under the ring came loose and that made the rings loose. This made it so the wrestlers were unable to use the ropes. The ring was fixed after the match.
Miss Natural defeated Ann Brookstone.
Rob James defeated Ryan Cruz. When James came to the ring he got on the mic and put down the South St. Paul dance team who were in attendance. The team then came down closer to the ring to cheer on Cruz but it was not enough to help him win the match.
Renny D defeated his former tag team partner Benjamin Sailer. During the match one of Sailer’s kicks hit Renny’s nose causing a deviated septum. Even with the the almost broken nose Renny was still able to get the pin but with his feet on the ropes. Referee Rob Page was out of position to see Renny cheat to win.
In the main event Mitch Paradise pinned Arya Daiavri after a choke slam. This match can be seen on the SDW web site which is linked above.

PTW Bloomington, MN 11/23/2012

Prime Time Wrestling presented “Black & Blue Friday” a week ago at the Knights of Columbus in Bloomington, MN.
Mikey Wipeout defeated Apostle 13 in the opening match. These two have been wrestling each other the last few shows with neither one getting a win. After the match Apostle 13 attacked Wipeout and Alas De Fuego came out to make the save. This was De Fuego’s first appearance in PTW.
Renny D Defeated John Johnson.
Mitch Paradise & Billy Blaze ( Body Beautiful) defeated Zero Kincade & Magic Man.
PTW champion Black Stallion retained the title when he defeated Arya Daivari. Daivari tried using the title belt and a low blow to defeat Stallion. Referee Rob Page gave the belt to Daivari after a 3 count but referee Willie Mac came out to tell Page about the cheating that Daivari did so Page restarted the match. Stallion then rolled up Daivari for the win.
Ryan Cruz & Big D defeated Crisco & Lenny Lane in the main event.

PWB St. Paul, MN 11/14/2012

Last Saturday night Pro Wrestling Battleground returned to Wilebsky’s Blues Saloon in St.Paul, MN.
“The King of Throwdown” Venom defeated The Mad Russian in the opening contest.
The PWB Breakout champion Luther Wilson III defeated former Olympic wrestler Chas Betts. Wilson had a lot of help from his manager Ryan Sax. Referee Rob Page totally missed the low blow that Wilson hit on Betts. This was Betts second pro match since he competed in the 2012 London Olympics.
Renny D pinned Udo. After the match Renny D put his shirt on and sat on a chair in the middle of the ring. D then spoke about how there are some wrestlers who don’t give the fans their moneys worth such as the Junk Squad. As he made his way back to the ‘locker room’ the video screens on the side of Wilebsky’s stage showed the Junk Squad attacking Renny D. Good use of the video screens.
Horace the Psychopath defeated “Playboy” Pete Huge in a ‘last man standing’ match. Huge’s Junk Squad partner Chris Jordan came out and attacked Horace but The Prophet chased Jordan back to the ‘locker room’. Horace and Huge hit each other with many weapons but the end came when a metal garbage can was introduced into the ring. Horace power bombed Huge onto the can and it folded around Huge’s torso. Huge was unable to get off the mat because of the can.
The Prophet defeated Chris Jordan.
Darin Corbin pinned Craven Knyte to become the new PWB champion. After ref Rob Page was knocked down Corbin hit Knyte with a ginger snap onto a metal chair. Horace came out after the match to check on Knyte. Corbin then challenged Horace to a match at the next PWB event, which will be the 6th anniversary or Pro Wrestling Battleground.
